One of the Windward Islands, St. Lucia is located in the center of the eastern Caribbean chain of islands and is approximately 21 miles south of Martinique and 90 miles northwest of Barbados. Activity abounds on this island, from deep-sea fishing and whale-watching safaris to sailboat sightseeing, as well as bareboat or skippered day trips, which are readily available. From rainforest adventures to high-flying helicopter tours, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy in St. Lucia. There are opportunities to hike, bird watch, and tour St. Lucia's outstanding natural attractions - ride horseback along the beach; hike the volcanic Pitons; relax on a romantic sunset cruise; enjoy a "party" catamaran to Soufrière; or plunge into the azure seas on a swimming, snorkeling, or SCUBA diving day trip. St. Lucia is also home to several first-rate festivals. The annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival is consistently rated the premier jazz festival in the Caribbean and one of the top five worldwide. The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is a spectacular sailing festival that begins at the Spanish Canary Islands and ends at Rodney Bay Marina. This exciting 2,700 nautical mile voyage is undertaken by more than 230 yachtsmen in December of each year.
